Chaos Item System

The Chaos Item System lets you re-roll the random bonuses on high level gear, add new option stars to it, and turn unwanted starred gear into the currency that pays for all of it.

It is five separate services, each with its own NPC window. They all share one currency (Shattered Fragments) and one pool of per-item reroll charges.

If you are not yet familiar with random base values and option stars, read Gear Randomization and Options first.

Before you start

Every service refuses gear that does not meet all of these:

  • Rare quality or better.
  • Your character is level 105 or higher.
  • The item is level 105 or higher.
  • Your level and the item's level are within 2 of each other.
  • It is a weapon, necklace, armour, gloves, ring or boots. Capes are not supported.

Reroll charges

Each piece of gear can be re-rolled 3 times. The window shows what is left as 3 / 3, counting down with every base re-roll, option re-roll and added star.

When it reaches 0 / 3 the item is spent and no further service will touch it until you use Item Restore to refill it.

Shattered Fragments

The currency the system runs on. You can hold a maximum of 150.

There is exactly one way to earn them, Chaos Break, and three ways to spend them. Breaking an item never returns enough fragments to pay for re-rolling it, so fragments are a genuine cost rather than something you can farm in a circle.

1. Chaos Break

Chaos Break window

Destroys a piece of starred gear and converts its stars into Shattered Fragments.

Cost 2,500,000 Silver Jeon, plus the item itself
You receive 1 Shattered Fragment per star
Charges used None (the item is destroyed)

Requirements

  • The item must have at least 3 stars.
  • It must be completely untouched: never enchanted, refined, or re-rolled.
  • It must have no gems socketed. Breaking would destroy them, so gemmed gear is refused outright.
  • The fragments you receive must fit under the 150 cap.

2. Base Stat Reroll

Base Stat Reroll window

Re-rolls the random bonuses on the item's base stats. Your option stars are not touched.

Cost 50 Shattered Fragments
Charges used 1

What gets re-rolled

Gear Stats re-rolled
Weapons Damage, Attack Rate, Elemental Damage
Armour Defense, Dodge, Elemental Defense
Gloves Defense, Attack Rate
Boots Defense, Dodge
Necklace Elemental Defense
Ring Elemental Damage

The whole set is re-rolled together, so you cannot keep one good value and re-roll the rest. The window shows the possible range for each stat so you can see how good the current roll is.

3. Option Reroll

Option Reroll window

Re-rolls the option stars the item already has. The number of stars never changes.

Cost 75 Shattered Fragments, or 125 with a star held
Second hold 1 Lock Charm, consumed
Charges used 1

Requirements

  • The item must already have at least one star.
  • You cannot hold every star. At least one has to be left free to re-roll.

Every star that is not held is replaced: both which stat it is and how strong it is. A 3-star item with nothing held comes back with 3 completely different stars. Nothing is added and nothing is lost.

Holding stars

Each star has a lock beside it. A held star keeps its exact stat and value through the re-roll, so you can protect the one you want and re-roll the rest.

  • You can hold up to 2 stars, and they do not have to be next to each other.
  • The first hold adds 50 Shattered Fragments to the price.
  • The second hold costs 1 Chaos Lock Charm instead of more fragments. It is only offered while you have one, and it is consumed when the re-roll happens.
  • Once two stars are held the remaining locks disappear. Release one to change your pick.
  • A re-rolled star never comes back as a stat the item already carries, so it can never duplicate one you are holding.

4. Add Star

Add Star window

Adds one new option star and leaves the ones you already have alone.

Cost 150 Shattered Fragments
Charges used 1

Requirements

  • The item must have fewer than 4 stars.

Your existing stars keep their exact stat and value, so this only ever adds to them. The new star is always a stat the item does not already carry, so you will never get a duplicate.

5. Item Restore

Item Restore window

Refills a spent item's reroll charges so you can keep working on it.

Cost 1 Gear Restoration Scroll, consumed
Charges used None (it resets them back to 3 / 3)

The scroll is sold by the Black Market NPC in Yongu at [4636, 2774].

Requirements

  • The item must be completely spent (0 / 3 remaining). You cannot top up an item that still has charges left.
  • Place the item in the left slot and the scroll in the right slot.

Restoring costs no silver and no fragments, and it does not change your stats or stars in any way; it only gives the item its charges back.
